This post is the first in a series all about Devinah Cosmetics. In this installment, I am going to be reviewing and swatching ten of Devinah Cosmetics Matte Eyeshadows. I chose to begin with the matte eyeshadows because 10 brand new shades were just released and I wanted to give you an idea of what to expect from them. But first, let me tell you a little about this wonderful company.
About Devinah Cosmetics
Devinah Cosmetics is an indie brand that specializes in eyeshadows, highlighters, lipsticks, and custom magnetic makeup palettes. Devinah Cosmetics is owned and operated by DeAndra, who’s love for eyeshadows motivated her to create her own eyeshadows and eventually her own company. They are based out of Lancaster, California and opened in October of 2015. This indie brand’s first products were shimmer and sparkle eyeshadows. Then in early 2016, they began creating highlighters and matte eyeshadows. Custom magnetic makeup palettes became available mid year of 2016. In the fall of 2016, Devinah Cosmetics added Lip Glossaries to their product list. These are super pigmented lip glosses.
Products and Prices
All of the products that Devinah Cosmetics offers are very affordable. The matte eyeshadows are each $5. Then with the shimmer and sparkle eyeshadows you have a couple of options. They are available in 4 different pan sizes that range from 26mm to 57mm. The smallest size can be purchased for $5 and the largest size is $20. You also have a size option with the highlighters, which come in 3 different pan sizes ranging form 36mm to 57mm. The prices for the highlighters range from $12 up to $20. There are also novelty highlighters that come in the same pan options, but they range in price from $18 to $25. The lip glossaries are each $13.95. Devinah Cosmetics also has multiple size options for their magnetic palettes. There are single 57mm pan palettes ($8) all the way up to XXLarge palettes ($24) that can hold 48 26mm pans.
Devinah Cosmetics Matte Eyeshadows
Collectively, Lorelei and I own about 2 dozen of Devinah Cosmetics eyeshadows, a bunch of their highlighters, and a couple of the lip glossaries. I fell in love with this amazing indie brand as soon as I swatched my very first eyeshadow from them back in November of 2015. Since then both Lorelei and I have purchased several orders from Devinah Cosmetics and we plan on continuing to purchase their products. Just recently we became affliates with Devinah Cosmetics and we have a discount code that you can use for money off on your next purchase. I will provide you with all that information at the bottom of this post. But for now, let’s get to talking about the ten Devinah Cosmetics Matte Eyeshadows that I currently own!
This first set of Devinah Cosmetics Matte Eyeshadows were all purchased by me. They were part of the initial releases of their matte eyeshadows back at the beginning of 2016. I purchased all of them within the first couple of months after their releases. I am noting this because it will be significant when I discuss my conclusions about these ten Devinah Cosmetics Matte Eyeshadows.
Descriptions of Each Eyeshadow
This is a beautiful bright pink violet shadow and it is vegan. It has amazing pigmentation, but it can also easily blend out to be more sheer. This shadow is smooth and not super soft. It has a slight chalky feel to it. It is great for bright and dramatic looks. Vixen is perfect for smokey eyes, as a crease shade, on the lid, or as a liner. It’s definitely one for those who are not afraid of bright colors. I love this color!
This eyeshadow is a medium toned purple and is also vegan. I want to start off by saying that I LOVE the color of this shadow! It has excellent pigmentation, but you do need more product than the others for it to be opaque. I think this is because the actual shadow feels pretty chalky and its on the harder side. Push can create dramatic and colorful looks. Push is perfect for smokey eyes, on the lid, to darken your outer v, or as a liner. In the conclusions of this blog, I am going to tell you a little more about this particular shadow.
This unique shade is a yellowy burnt orange and it is vegan as well. I could not resist getting this shadow. It’s so PRETTY! This shadow has excellent pigmentation and good texture. It’s not super soft and it blends out really well. Anastasia is a great color for your crease, as a transition shade, and for your lid. It’s a great shadow and color!
Torture is an intense, very bright fire engine red shadow. I fell in love with this shadow as soon as I saw it. I love reds! Out of these first four matte shadows that I purchased, Torture has the chalkiest texture and it is quite hard. Like Push, you need a little more products than with the others for this to be completely opaque. It has amazing pigmentation despite this, and it does build up and blend out well. Torture is great for dramatic and colorful looks. It can be a crease shade, lid shade, a colorful transition shade, or a liner. If you love bright colors and reds, you definitely need this shadow. Also, I will be specifically mentioning Torture in my conclusions as well.
This second set of Devinah Cosmetics Matte Eyeshadows were also all purchased. These beauties were acquired over the last couple of months. I grouped the eyeshadows in this way because I immediately noticed slight differences between the matte eyeshadows I got when they were first released and these newer matte eyeshadows. I will mention my thoughts and opinions below in my conclusions.
Descriptions of Each Eyeshadow
Grunge is a dark charcoal grey and is a vegan shadow. It is super buttery and smooth to the touch. This shadow has unbelievable pigmentation and when it’s packed on, it could be considered black. It blends out really well and can even be light grey in color. Grunge, as its name indicates, is perfect for dark looks, dark smokey eyes, as a liner, or for darkening the outer v.
This is currently one of my favorite Devinah Cosmetics Matte Eyeshadows. I have really been into blues lately and this is a perfect deepened blue with a black base. It can definitely be considered a navy blue. Like many of the eyeshadows, Naval is vegan. This shadow is extremely pigmented and it blends out extremely well. It is so smooth and buttery to the touch. Naval is great for dark and dramatic smokey eyes, all over the lid, for darkening the outer v, and as a liner. This one is definitely a most have.
Adorn is beautiful. This shadow is a mixture of brown and red, and you know how much I love anything with a red tone to it. Like the other mattes, it has super pigmentation and is buttery smooth. It also blends out really well. Adorn is perfect for dark and dramatic smokey eyes, all over the lid, darkening the outer v, and as a liner.
I also REALLY like this shadow. It is a gorgeous milk chocolatey cherry cola color and it is vegan. This shadow has excellent pigmentation, but it can also blend out so well that it leaves just a hint of its beauty behind. It is buttery smooth and soft to the touch. Passion is great for all over the lid and as a crease shade. It would also make a good transition shade on darker skin tones.
Pandora is a very unique color. It is a pastel nude plum and it is vegan. It has the slightest tint of plum to it, but is subtle enough to be a nude color. This shadow has amazing pigmentation for being a light color. It is buttery smooth and soft. Pandora is perfect to use as a transition shade for purples, reds, and pinks. It is also great all over your lid for a more neutral look.
I love Penelope. It is a beautiful pastel peachy pink. It is also a vegan shadow like most of Devinah Cosmetics Matte Eyeshadows. This shadow is so smooth and buttery. Like many of the others, it is a soft shadow. Penelope is an excellent transition shade for multiple different colors like blues, oranges or pinks. It can also be used all over the lid for a more neutral look.
In my opinion Devinah Cosmetics Matte Eyeshadows are a must have for any makeup lover’s collection, and I highly recommend these eyeshadows. The pigmentation of these matte eyeshadows is unbelievable! They are so bold and intense, but will also blend out for a more soft, subtle look and feel. With the exception of a couple, they are very smooth and buttery to the touch. The two that I own that are not, Push and Torture, are chalky feeling and slightly hard, but their super pigmentation makes up for their texture. You can see in the above photo the difference in texture between those two shadows and the other eight.
Lorelei just recently purchased her own Push and I was able to swatch it before giving it to her. The texture of the newer Push is definitely smoother and less hard. It’s still not as buttery smooth as the others, but there is improvement in quality with the newer shadow. This leads me to believe that since the initial release of their matte eyeshadows, Devinah Cosmetics has slightly changed their matte formula in order to improve their products. This is one thing that makes this indie brand amazing. They consistently keep building and changing in order to create great products for their customers.
Lorelei and I are affiliates with Devinah Cosmetics. We started off as loyal customers in love with their makeup. When an opportunity came around to become an affiliate with them, we applied right away. We were lucky enough to be chosen and we are so excited by this! We get to stand behind and support an indie brand who we truly stand behind and love. To receive a 20% off discount on your next Devinah Cosmetics order, you can use our code, “Dolls20”, at checkout.
