A couple of weeks ago I picked up one of the NYX Cosmetics Wanderlust Soft Matte Lip Cream City Sets at Ulta Beauty. These each consist of 1 Soft Matte Lip Cream and 8 Eyeshadows. They are named after the Soft Matte Lip Cream Color in the set which are each named after iconic cities from around the world. All of the eyeshadows are new colors created for these sets. NYX designed the colors in each palette to compliment the color of the Soft Matte Lip Cream.
I had a VERY difficult time deciding which set to get because they are all so pretty! I finally decided on getting Copenhagen. My love for burgundy and mauve is what finally swayed my decision. During the following week, I got a chance to play around with all 8 eyeshadows and the lippie. I am going to describe each shadow and give my honest opinions on each of them. I am not reviewing the lippie because it has been in the Soft Matte Lip Cream line for a long time. Copenhagen is a reddish berry color and it semi, but not completely sets unlike traditional liquid lipsticks.
NYX Wanderlust Soft Matte Cream City Set in Copenhagen
- : This is a light peach shade with lots of shimmer. It is buttery smooth to the touch and super pigmented. This eyeshadow is great as an all over lid shade or as an inner corner highlight
Shade 2: This shadow is a light pinky peach with loads of silver/pink sparkle. It is also buttery smooth and super pigmented for a light sparkle shadow. There is some fallout with this one due to both the glitter and the softness of the shadow. Your brush will pick up a lot of product with the slightest touch. It works perfectly as an all over lid shade or as an inner corner highlight.
Shade 3: This is a light mauve with tons of silver/pink sparkle. It is as buttery smooth and super pigmented as the first two. There is some fallout with this one, which is very similar to shade 2. It is caused by the amount of glitter in the eyeshadow. The shadow is so soft that your brush will pick up a lot of product with the slightest touch. This eyeshadow makes a perfect all over lid shade. It is such a beautiful color.
Shade 4: This is one of the two true matte eyeshadows in this palette. It is a matte dark chocolate-brown. Just like the first three shadows, this one is buttery smooth and very pigmented. It blends out easily and blends well with other shadows, both in the palette and from other brands. This shadow is great for lining the upper lash line or bottom lash line, for darkening the outer V, and for a dark brown smokey eye.
Shade 5: This shadow is truly unique. In the pan it looks like a dark burgundy shimmer, but when you swatch it you realize that it is a duochrome shadow. It has a dark cool brown base with a burgundy and pink shift to it. Absolutely gorgeous! Following suit with the other shadows, this one is buttery smooth and super pigmented. It is perfect for a smokey eye look and for darkening the outer V.
Shade 6: This is the only other true matte eyeshadow in the palette. The shadow is a medium toned taupe. It is just as buttery smooth as the rest of them with good pigmentation. I do need to do a second swipe of this shadow in order to get the same level of opacity as the others, which to me is not a big deal. It blends easily and blends well with other shadows, both from this palette and other brands. It works great as a crease shade or as an all over lid color.
Shade 7: This shadow is the main reason I chose this palette over the other sets. It is a dark brown burgundy shimmer. The shadow is buttery smooth and super pigmented. There is very little fallout, but do use a light hand when picking up the product with your brush. It is a soft eyeshadow like the other shimmers in this palette. This shadow is a great all over lid shade and will make a perfect dark burgundy smokey eye. It can also be used to darken the outer V. This eyeshadow is a very beautiful shadow.
Shade 8: This eyeshadow has a matte light cream base and white silver glitter throughout. The glitter does transfer to the eyes (and stays on!). There is some fallout due to the glitter, but not much compared to some other glitter shadows I own. This shadow is also buttery smooth and its pigmentation is good for a very light color. It is a perfect brow bone and inner corner highlight.
My overall opinion on the NYX Cosmetics Wanderlust Soft Matte Lip Cream City Set in Copenhagen is that I LOVE it! The shadows are all velvety smooth to the touch. Plus they have great pigmentation. Their staying power is unbelievable! I created each look around 6:00 am before work. At the end of the day, around 3:00 pm, the shadows were still just as beautiful, not creasing, and in place. The glitter from the shadows also stayed put, which resulted in very little fallout as the day went on.
Here are three looks that I created using the Copenhagen Set.
My Makeup Looks
Now I’m going to describe how I created the eye makeup in Look 3.
First, I will talk about how I used the shadows from the palette. I used shade 4 as a brow bone highlight. Then blended it down slightly. For the crease color, I used shade 6. Then blended it up. I also used shade 6 in the outer V of my lid and along the bottom lash line. To darken the outer V slightly, I used shade 7. Next, I blended the edges out to create a smokey effect. On the lid I used shade 3. For the inner tear duct highlight I mixed shades 2 and 8. With shade 7, I lined my upper lash line and again smoked the outer 1/2 out slightly.
When done with the shadows, I lined the lower waterline with NYX Wonder Pencil in Light. Next, I lined the upper waterline with NYX Slide On Glide On Pencil in Jet Black. I used the same mascara routine that I described in my last post. First, I used the volumizing brush of Pacifica Dream Big Mascara, let that layer dry, used the lengthening brush of the Pacifica Dream Big Mascara, let the second layer dry, and lastly I finished with a layer of Blinc Amplified Mascara. I finished up the look with NYX Lip Lingerie in Embellishment.
My Final Thoughts
I am so impressed by this first NYX Cosmetics Wanderlust Soft Matte Lip Cream City Set. The weekend after I purchased mine, I even convinced Lorelei to get one for herself. After debating, she chose the set in Dubai. I borrowed it for a week so I could review it and compare the two sets.
I highly recommend the NYX Wanderlust Soft Matte Lip Cream City Sets. Their wearability and quality pleasantly surprised me. Especially since, they are only $14.99 at Ulta Beauty. For that price, they are very much worth it. I’m already plotting on which one I should get next. I plan on doing a series of review blog posts on this Wanderlust Collection. One of my next blog poss will be about the Dubai Soft Matte Lip Cream City Set. So keep your eyes open for it!
