My Holy Grail Face Products, Part 3: Kat Von D Beauty Lock-It Concealer Crème
What’s Up with my Skin???
I thought it was about time to write a series of blog posts about my everyday foundation routine. I am going to begin with reviews on each of my holy grail face products and then I will do a mini tutorial on how I use the products. (This blog is Part 3 in the series, and you can find Part 1 about my holy grail dark circle corrector here and Part 2 about my holy grail foundation here.) I’ve been doing this specific routine now for a couple of months and I really love how my skin looks with it. I usually do not like heavy or full coverage foundations or the cakey look you can sometimes get from using them or using too much. On the other hand I prefer a more natural look. I guess you might call it a no-makeup makeup look.
I would say my skin is normal to combination skin with my T-zone being the oiliest. Also, I have extremely sensitive skin on my face and have to be careful about the products I use to cleanse it, moisturizer it, and create a base for the rest of my makeup. I have had allergic reactions to many products and so I try to be ingredient conscious when choosing which products to use. The allergic reactions that I tend to have are increased acne and rashes. My preference is towards ingredients and products that are more natural. The products also need to come from a cruelty free brand and it’s a plus if they are vegan. I need to avoid gluten and dairy as I have allergic reactions to both of these. Some other ingredients I avoid in my skincare and makeup products are mineral oils, parabans, and phthalates.
My Holy Grail Face Products: Concealer
Kat Von D Beauty Lock-It Concealer Crème in Warm L7
I have tried several different concealers over the years and have liked a few here and there, but never really fell in love with one. Back in May I went to the Make Up Show in New York City with Lorelei and Kat Von D Beauty had a booth there. I had been wanting to try out the Lock-It Concealer Crème for awhile and with the sale at the show I decided to give it a try. I am so glad that I decided to buy the Kat Von D Lock-It Concealer Crème because it has become my favorite concealer. You can purchase this concealer on the Kat Von D Beauty website or at Sephora for $26.
The Kat Von D Beauty Lock-It Concealer Crème is super creamy and has a 24 hour-long wear formula. It is also very blendable. The formula has super pigmentation so one swipe of the product will provide full coverage. Despite being a full coverage concealer, it is lightweight and comfortable to wear. It is infused with an ultra-moisturizing Hydra Boost Complex to keep your skin smooth and hydrated through the day. It also is loaded with complexion brightening pigments. The formula is also non-comedogenic. It comes in 20 different shades designed to match almost every skin tone. Plus there is a pure white concealer called “White Out”, which can be used to lighten any of the existing shades. The formula is also completely vegan, which for me is a plus! (I prefer vegan products when possible.) It contains no parabens, sulfates, and phthalates.
The Kat Von D Beauty Lock-It Concealer Crème comes in a glass tube with 0.22 oz of product. As with all of her products, Kat Von D designed the lettering and design of the box and tube. The built-in artistry applicator is modeled after a paint brush. It has a tear drop shape and the tapered tip is perfect for small spots. The wider base works well for larger areas.
This concealer can be used in so many different ways. You can use it as a concealer, eye shadow primer, and a foundation (when mixed with a primer). The Kat Von D Beauty Lock-It Concealer Crème can brighten under-eyes, cover blemishes, correct discoloration, neutralize redness, contour and highlight. This concealer is a very versatile product. It provides full coverage, but can be more sheer when applied with a wet beauty sponge. It can also be applied using the applicator provided, a brush, or a MakeUp Drop. This concealer can be used in combination with dark circle correctors and foundations as well as on its own. The formula blends so well into your skin so it can be used on its own to cover problem areas on days you don’t want to wear foundation.
I love the Kat Von D Beauty Lock-It Concealer Crème! The shade Warm L7 is perfect for my skin tone. It also does not aggravate my sensitive skin at all. I own the White Out concealer as well and have used it as an eye primer and on my face to lighten areas for more artistic looks. The concealers blend out really well and my skin does appear smooth after using it. It also lasts all day. Personally I use a MakeUp Drop or a wet beauty sponge to blend out the concealer. I have worn it with dark circle correctors and foundations as well as on its own with no foundation. I was amazed at how well it blended into my skin. You couldn’t even tell I had put on concealer. I do put a setting powder over it and occasionally use a blotting powder on hot days.
The concealer is very thick, so a little goes a long way. The formula did take a couple of uses to get used to. I was used to using concealers that require more product in order to get a good amount of coverage. You do not need a lot of product to achieve full coverage with this concealer. I purchased the shade Warm L7 in the beginning of May and I have used it every time I’ve done my makeup and there is still a lot of product left in the tube. The $26 might seem like a lot of money, but you definitely get your money’s worth. The quality is amazing and the amount of product you get lasts a long time. I highly recommend the Kat Von D Beauty Lock-It Concealer Crème.
